I have used Van Staal reels exclusively since 2008 when I bought my first VS 200. I now have 8 Van Staal reels and I use them throughout Australia mainly in saltwater from my boat and off the beach. I have reel sizes 50, 150, 200, 250 and 275 and find them indestructible. The fishing conditions are harsh in Australia and the reels never miss a beat and require little maintenance. I bought a VSX2 250 reel two years ago and the second fish I caught on a jig in 150 feet of water on the Great Barrier Reef was a 112 pound Giant Trevally and the reel hanled it without issue. I have caught sailfish, tuna, grouper, barramundi, snapper, sharks and a variety of other species on Van Staal and I will not buy any brand of reel, I just wish they easier to get in Australia.

This is my 5th VR. These are my go to reels for the boat and what I hand my clients. I need to know that my gear is going to work even after being abused by fish and fishermen. Van Staal gives me that peace of mind, and allows me to focus on fishing versus fishing gear. If you are looking to eliminate a variable, pick up a VR.

Texas saltwater wading the surf with the VRII25. Catching anything from redfish, snook, speckled trout, flounder, to medium jack cravelle in South Texas. Solid reel that can truly handle saltwater and sand. Only reel I take now. Saving up for backup or second set up. Highly recommend this reel to anyone who are hardcore saltwater fisherman only. Save your money and invest on reel that will last and out fish any reel these days.

if you have fishing in your life, as a hobby, as a way of life, you know damn well this reel is 10/10. i feel like you only know when you own one. im from alaska and target all species, this things is great. i cant complain.
